Join us for the first Export Masterclass workshop for 2017 on Product & Service Transformation and Ecosystem Mapping to find out how different types of value can be created by an ecosystem and captured by its customers.

Andrew Gill, Principal Industry Fellow from the Institute for Manufacturing Education & Consultancy Services (IfM ECS) at the University of Cambridge is coming to Tauranga to present this Export Masterclass and provide advice and specific tools which will allow you to build a personalised plan for your business and your business partners.

In today's increasingly complex and interconnected world, customer needs for goods and services are better addressed by networks of interacting organisations, acting as business 'ecosystems.' In this way companies' business models are closely interdependent, competition goes hand in hand with cooperation, and no single firm can succeed without relying on resources and capabilities controlled by others. Thinking in terms of ecosystems is increasingly important for manufacturing and service corporations worldwide in delivering effective service offerings.

For example, take the likes of Rolls Royce. Instead of selling a jet engine, through the use of this course they've been able to identify how to charge their products and services out in terms of engine hours. Or for example consider Caterpillar who are increasingly offering 'output from your quarry' as an alternative to selling vehicles and after sales service and support.

Key topics will include:

  • Understating what innovation in services means in the context of manufactured products
  • Understanding ecosystem mapping and how it can further your export potential by transforming your product and service offerings
  • Developing your customer value proposition with these understandings in mind

All with a strategic view to allow you to come away with a plan to be implemented within your own business and with your current or potential new business partners.

Andrew works extensively with IfM research colleagues in the transfer and exploitation of research findings into industry and government. He joined IfM ECS following five years in a senior role with A.T. Kearney Management Consultants, and eighteen years in manufacturing and general management at Royal Dutch/Shell. His experience includes:

  • Business, manufacturing technology and capability development
  • Service and service transformation in manufacturing
  • National manufacturing, technology and industry strategy development
  • Design and facilitation of complex, controversial, change programmes
