Trade Update

In this month's Trade Update: I update you on the TPP as all eyes are now on Washington. Also, the Korea FTA is now before the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Select Committee. Submissions close on 24 April. ExportNZ will be presenting a submission in support of this agreement, and we encourage those of you with interest in the Korea market, and who will benefit from this Agreement, to also make a submission.

IP tips for doing business in China

High tech sales driven by services

Statistics New Zealand has reported that the information and communication technology (ICT) sector had sales worth $23.5 billion in 2014, an increase of 3 percent since 2012. Although the increase in overall sales was small, there have been changes within the sector.

Sales by the ICT sector are the equivalent of around 10 percent of GDP. Services pushed the increase in total sales, with IT services leading the way.

Sales in Internet access and Internet telecommunication services were up 50 percent since 2012, to reach $2 billion.

“The smartphone revolution is not only about more people buying smartphones, but also about them using these devices to run more of their day-to-day business and life,” said business performance manager Jason Attewell. More...
