Message from the executive director

We hope exporters are coping with the level 4 lockdown.  We know it is frustrating for those that are not deemed essential businesses and we know you don’t want to let your international clients down.  We continue to talk to the Government on your behalf and you can see some of the public commentary below.  Lets hope the vaccination rates continue at pace and we don’t have to be in this position again!  As always, if we can help, please get in touch.

On the trade policy front the focus is squarely on the New Zealand – United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement negotiations.

Report on California's Supply Chain Congestion

President Biden had announced steps to make the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach operate 24/7 in an effort to reduce the current bottlenecks affecting the whole US supply chain. The Southern California ports continue to be a focal point of the supply chain crisis with an estimated 500,000 containers waiting offshore for an average of 11 days before being unloaded at the ports.

The effects of this long-term supply chain disruption continue to impact the global flow of goods, causing increasing delays for New Zealand exporters. This disruption is expected to continue well into 2022.

The New Zealand Consulate-General in Los Angeles has now published a report detailing the issue, and steps being taken lessen the impact.
