This interactive workshop provides relevant insights for New Zealand businesses looking to engage with or already doing business in Singapore and Malaysia. Discover more about the exciting markets of Malaysia and Singapore and how they can serve as a hub for New Zealand businesses in Southeast Asia.

The session's topics cover the macro and business environments in Singapore and Malaysia, key aspects of the cultures in business, consumer behaviour, how to identify opportunities, and market entry strategies. Participants can tap into the expert knowledge provided by academics and learn about opportunities and challenges of doing business in Malaysia and Singapore. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to share, exchange ideas, and network with other individuals and businesses participating in the workshop.

This workshop is suitable for:

  • SMEs exploring the exporting opportunities in SEA
  • SMEs starting their exporting journey
  • SMEs currently exporting internationally to other regions or SEA

Facilitators:

Dr Antje Fiedler

Senior Lecturer, School of Management, University of Auckland

Antje has undertaken extensive research on the internationalisation of SMEs with a particular focus on emerging Asia. Her research has been published in international journals as well as informed courses at the Business School (University of Auckland) and practitioner workshops around New Zealand. She is the Director of the China Studies Centre of the University of Auckland and an academic advisor of the South East Asia CAPE.

Dr Grigorij Ljubownikow

Lecturer at the Graduate School of Management, University of Auckland

Greg has a research interest in competitive strategy with a particular focus on competitive dynamics and growth strategies. His research has been published in international journals, and he has more than ten years of university teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Lately, he has been teaching at the University of Auckland Business School in the Business Master’s, MBA, and Executive Education programmes. In his Strategy Capstone course, he and his students work with NZ companies to address their domestic and international strategy challenges.
